Hollow cylindrical and truncated conical shells depict enhanced torsional shear resistance compared to beams plates are ubiquitously used in structures aeronautics, submarines, wind turbines, pressure vessels, transmission pylons. Upon extensive localised blast, these elements undergo local global deformation failure. The detrimental damage the shell depends on stand-off charge mass is proportional emerged dynamic stresses inelastic deformations. Large translations relocate structure’s original pivot point induce rotations about new one which raises probability of structural collapse. In this work, we examine large plastic deformations hollow subject a range pulse pressures emanated from high explosives. Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI)-based Finite Element (FE) models were developed discern characteristics blasts at various stand-offs functions proposed link load parameters structural, material, geometric properties.
